Dichrome's 1st Annual Glass Shifter Competition

Voting has closed for the 2008 Shifter Competition. Congratulations to our winner, Phil Sundling, and runner-up Garth Watkins. Special thanks to all our entrants, sponsors, and all who voted for making our first contest a success. Check back for updates on future contests.

Our first annual competition is finally here! It took a little longer than planned, but all of the killer entries we received have made it worth the wait. VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITES NOW!

Unfortunately, a few entries didn't survive the machining process. Corinne Winters sent in an awesome Devil Girl shifter that cracked during drilling, as did a phenomenal piece by Garth Watkins. Luckily, Garth sent multiple entries. We've learned a lot and will revise next year's guidelines to make sure all competitors make it through to the swimsuit round.

This year's crop of entries comes from virgin Dichrome artists. Although we left no restrictions on entry, we were suprised none of our existing artists’ entered their work. I want to thank all the individual entrants for sending in their work and supporting our first of many competitions. Thanks also to all of our sponsors including KBPI, UST Glass, Glasscraft, Dichroic Alchemy, and Coatings by Sandberg.

Please support our sponsors.

Big busty babe by Brett Christian. This our only soft glass entrant of '08. Black, red, and orange sculpted into a nice rack! Nice buns too as the entire piece has been sculpted, even the back.

Red, orange, yellow, white and blue swirls on the blackest violet. Bright colors placed neatly between the raven glass. Topped with a clear window, a few inches in diameter and placed for an intersting view. By Gabe Kamm.

Phil Sundling twisted up this amazing specimen. Splashes of amber purple encircle the base. Simple swirls of hot dichro melted into the black surface. Clear top with hot dichro swirls in the body. Complete with facets and etched shift pattern! Nice!

Orson Welles or Gene Rodenberry would be proud of this bad knobber. A one-eyed alien with a floating brain clings to this black and white solid shifter. A unique entry from Garth Watkins. Take me to your leader!

Elongated accents by Blade in Denver, CO. This black accordion design has large ridges accenting the length. Two reversed sections welded to the top create stunning swirls in orange, yellow, and red. Grall etched arrows complete the top.

Miko of Nerderland, CO twisted up this perfectly patterned piece for the '08 shift knob contest. Amazing hues of blue, green, and purple contrast against the warm petals of the flower pattern on top. Hot sparkles will jump off this unit in the sun!
